Eng's - Kingston
About This Spot
Stepping into Eng’s in Kingston is like slipping into a chapter of local history where time slows gently and the familiar hum of warm conversation fills the air. The restaurant greets you with an inviting glow—soft lighting that dances on vintage signage and walls bearing quiet reminders of days past, including a subtle nod to its moment in the spotlight on a beloved television series. Here, the atmosphere is calm and welcoming, a cozy reprieve from the day’s rush where neighbors and visitors alike find a seat at the well-loved table.
The dining room, recently reopened to eager patrons, feels both settled and alive, a space where lively chats mingle with the clink of chopsticks and the comforting aromas of classic Chinese dishes being prepared with care. There’s a comforting sense of rhythm in the service—attentive yet unhurried—that mirrors the unpretentious character of the place itself.
Eng’s menu invites you into a shared experience rather than a mere meal. Whether you’re savoring delicate dumplings, delighting in the harmony of savory and sweet notes of orange chicken, or reminiscing over a Pu Pu platter designed for two, the dishes reveal a dedication to tradition and homemade touches that speak to decades of practice. The seafood offers a generous nod to fresh, textured flavors, and desserts with subtle accents of coconut or fresh berries provide a quiet, satisfying close to the evening.
Beyond the food, Eng’s is a backdrop for human moments—the smile exchanged across a crowded table, the easy laughter of longtime friends reunited, or the simple pleasure of discovering a place that has quietly anchored itself in Kingston’s culinary landscape for nearly a century. It’s a reminder that some experiences are deeply rooted in their surroundings, where every detail, from the ‘in-house’ egg rolls to familiar booths, invites you not just to eat, but to linger and belong.

Engs is an institution. The food is good, the service is super friendly, and the prices are very affordable. There's no wonder they've been around for almost a hundred years! I'm thrilled that they recently reopened the dining room.

My partner Justin and I went to Eng's as part of our Severance-filming-location trip. We actually got there way too early and stuck around the area, checking out little shops for hours before they opened and we are SO GLAD we did. We got there right when the dining room opened and were geeking out the whole time about the place - the lighting, the art that was left up in the scene in Severance, the awesome owner and waiter. It was all great. The mai tai was amazing as was the veggie lo mein and spare ribs. We can't wait to go back someday soon!! Thanks to the staff for being so kind and funny and letting us take a bunch of pictures.

This was some of the best Chinese food I had to date and worth the drive up from Pennsylvania to try out. We had the Wonton Soup with Pork, PuPu platter for 2, the ribs, orange chicken/beef special and ice cream for dessert, I had a scoup of coconut which had real flakes in the ice cream and coffee which was very flavorful. My friend had the blueberry cheese cake ice cream which he raved about. The Mai Tai was amazing also. Service was very friendly and attentive, they may be slightly understaffed. I enjoyed the classic appearance of the interior, very old school and I loved it. I will be back!

This place is amazing and delicious. Establishments like this are few and far between these days. A proper old school Chinese restaurant and institution of classic Americana. They care enough to make their egg rolls in-house. The decor is perfect, and the building and signage is utterly charming. There’s a reason they were scouted to feature in a hit TV show (known for its cinematography, might I add). All of the bad reviews saying the food is tasteless have had their palettes conditioned by Chinese takeout that all basically comes from a distribution center and loaded with sugar and flavor enhancers that you can’t pronounce. That’s why the sauces all taste the same and an egg roll tastes identical in Minnesota or Connecticut. Keep doing what you’re doing Eng’s. You’re a gem.

Eng’s - an icon! Amazing food, atmosphere, and efficient service! All of the classics are there! When in Kingston, Eng’s is a must! When you step into the beautiful and iconic dining room of Eng’s, you embark on more than just a culinary experience. The world around you transforms into a sanctuary of relaxation, peace, and love. Every worry melts away, replaced by smiles, meaningful conversations, and joyous celebrations. Thank you, Eng’s, for creating this haven for myself, my family, and my friends for so many wonderful years.

Fun old fashioned place and the food was good! The Egg Foo Yung and Cantonese Steak with broccoli were especially good! Prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge! Very friendly staff! (Just a little bit slow and server didn't know how several dishes were made and we ordered the chop suey but didn't get the dish). We'll definitely be back when we're next in town.

We were passing through the area coming from south Jersey and decided to stop in. The atmosphere was welcoming and really awesome. It is tastefully decorated inside i really liked it. The staff was extremely friendly and helpful. When we were seated we were brought out hot tea and crackers which I was not expecting but it was really nice. The waitress was helpful with recommendations. The food came out surprisingly fast. All of the food we got was excellent and very reasonably priced for what you get. We tried the chicken lo mein, chicken chow mein, and chicken and broccoli as well as fried rice and of course egg rolls. Nothing bad to say about any of it. If you’re looking for a filling meal at a place that is comfortable and friendly, I highly recommend trying out Engs. Wish we were here on a smorgasbord day! If we’re ever in the area again we will be sure to stop by again!
